Um. hah.

This is just a tacky slow imitation of Super Mario Bros.
Only thing going for it is the game design of the one original thing about this game. the character you're playing.
Everything else is essentially Mario and there's no indication that it's some parody.
But how should I know?? The controls are so laggy and the game itself is laggy, I couldn't even be bothered with finishing the first round.
Honestly, you think the people of newgrounds are this fucking dumb?

Lol no one gets it.

**To those furiously typing at how boring it is****
It's MEANT to be "pointless" and "boring" at least that's what I got. the context clues say it all in the end screen and menu.
climbing the corporate ladder is a wasteful and useless way to spend one's lifetime. I think the creators are trying to say that concentrating all your time and effort on getting that next promotion and kicking people down while getting to the top is a pretty sucky way to live. Ya'll are looking at it too close minded.

Making the game only fun at first is a metaphor for business world.

And on that note, my critique? It's pretty good. Simple.
The way I interpreted it makes it a cool way to utilize gaming.
But this is a site of gamers and animators. I don't think many have (or even old enough to have) a business job so this message is flying over their heads. But then again, that's if my assumptions were close.
The design is cute, the game ran smoothly, sound effects were fun.
Even the font helped set the atmosphere on "bland". I can't imagine a game with such a honed style would use courier new or something without reason.
Anyway, good job. Entertaining.

oh wondrous childhood

Had a take a point off for design, i know you had only a handful of hours but font is a bit tacky and just the type with nothing outlining it or anything, makes it seem to blend with the background.
But.
I love this game.
I got chills when I put two "magics" in the machine. Such a beautiful concept, game, music, etc. It truly brings me back to the old original movie and allows me to finally visualize what Charlie would be doing afterward. I think a little nostalgia is wonderful and I'm happy you guys were able to create it.
Such a simple objective but so very magical.
How did you do the music though? did you make it yourself or did you find it? I love this version, so retro but still as enchanting as the original version.

Thanks for your review!
Yeah, I wish it could be more polished, but we were really strapped on time, as all the combinations and descriptions had to be hard-coded in, as well as all of the icons had to be made.
I took a midi of the song, and put it through a chip-tune conversion software to get that retro feel.

Not exactly a love song..

Extremely disturbing. Very true.
I played this a while ago but didn't fully get it. i knew something was off. Coming back to it now, I finally understand. this is definitely not your typical love story.
Beautiful, well written, and the game runs smoothly.
It's such a simple (but terrible) concept, drawn in a very big way.

To anyone who's thinking this is a sappy shogo romantic pick-your-own adventure, sit back for a second and think hard about the female's symbolism.
Not all things are face value in this novel--sans the hospital. And perhaps once you get it, you'll understand the hospital scene much clearer.... ;)

"Try Again" with the same amount of money

I like games like this though I have a problem with the upgrading. This may make it easy but perhaps you can find middle ground... retrying a level you died in with the same amount of money is frustrating.
it's like, i need to upgrade things in a certain succession or i'm going to be screwed for the rest of the game. it really felt like a puzzle game, like 'ok if i get this THEN this, i can definitely beat the next boss."
BUT this was the problem. If I get semi-far in the game, buy some upgrades and the next wave didn't have enough $$ for a new one, I'd go in, new machine appears and unfortunately my new upgrades didn't help. now i die, and i can't buy anything new to help me for this wave that the game brings me back to every time i hit "try again." no money and shitload of new machines, I'm screwed and have to restart the whole game.

Absolutely not helpful

This has potential but there are a lot of things that make this a bad game
Firstly, how in the world are we to figure out we need to click on a brick??
If it werent for the walkthrough, I'd never know to click on the brick wall--which is a really big flaw in this game since you can't progress much further until you do. It wasn't even discolored or anything, just a random brick in the pile.
And the secret compartments appearing is neat and all but it's so abrupt I don't feel wowed. I suggest commentary (like, they would let us know that they think they heard something open) from the mysterious character we're playing.
Which brings me to my next point, why are we trapped in an apartment?? I'd understand if this is a sequel but even if it was, you lack letting new players know this. Regardless, this has no plot at all.
The design is a bit tacky. Simple, almost nice enough to work but the gradients and color scheme make the room " out of a furniture magazine"
Only good thing about this is the fact that it works smoothly.
But dear god, put in a mute button, this music is so cheesy.
For a point-and-click, you took it as literal as you could huh? Bare minimum I'd say.

Oh...my...god

I don't think I loved a third person shooter in my entire life. This was so fun! And this is coming from a point-and-click addict.
The design of the game was beautiful--right down to the loading screen. Very clever use of a charging battery.
Sound effects were awesome
Mini Missions were fun
I'd say that my character didn't move enough though neither did the enemies so it was evened out.
Loved the difference between each gun and strategy involved with the bombs.
And the story, though there didn't seem to be much of it, the description pretty says it all.
Seriously well done.

Fun concept

I liked it but i can't seem to get past the super crab since my character stays in the "looking up" position and can't go back to throwing rocks at it.
Other than that, it's an enjoyable game, I'm sure I'd like it if I can get past this glitch..
God job

Nice

Cute game. Simple yet still draws me in to beat it.
Though one problem with the hardest difficulty is entering the last letter of every try.
It seems the phrase is cut off because of space but the game won't let me put in the last letter.
I suggest putting in a "restart" button or something.
I also suggest adding an "instructions" section or putting it in the description. But that's just my personal preference.
Sorry, I know this is your first game but when you get more comfortable to writing codes, maybe come back to this to make some little changes.
